16 사울과 그의 아들 요나단과 그들과 함께 한 백성은 베냐민 게바에 있고 블레셋 사람들은 믹마스에 진 쳤더니 16 Saul and his son Jonathan and the men with them were staying in Gibeah in Benjamin, while the Philistines camped at Micmash.
17 노략꾼들이 세 대로 블레셋 사람들의 진영에서 나와서 한 대는 오브라 길을 따라서 수알 땅에 이르렀고 17 Raiding parties went out from the Philistine camp in three detachments. One turned toward Ophrah in the vicinity of Shual,
18 한 대는 벧호론 길로 향하였고 한 대는 광야쪽으로 스보임 골짜기가 내려다 보이는 지역 길로 향하였더라 18 another toward Beth Horon, and the third toward the borderland overlooking the Valley of Zeboim facing the desert.
19 그 때에 이스라엘 온 땅에 철공이 없었으니 이는 블레셋 사람들이 말하기를 히브리 사람이 칼이나 창을 만들까 두렵다 하였음이라 19 Not a blacksmith could be found in the whole land of Israel, because the Philistines had said, 'Otherwise the Hebrews will make swords or spears!'
20 온 이스라엘 사람들이 각기 보습이나 삽이나 도끼나 괭이를 벼리려면 블레셋 사람들에게로 내려갔었는데 20 So all Israel went down to the Philistines to have their plowshares, mattocks, axes and sickles sharpened.
21 곧 그들이 괭이나 삽이나 쇠스랑이나 도끼나 쇠채찍이 무딜 때에 그리하였으므로 21 The price was two thirds of a shekel for sharpening plowshares and mattocks, and a third of a shekel for sharpening forks and axes and for repointing goads.
22 싸우는 날에 사울과 요나단과 함께 한 백성의 손에는 칼이나 창이 없고 오직 사울과 그의 아들 요나단에게만 있었더라 22 So on the day of the battle not a soldier with Saul and Jonathan had a sword or spear in his hand; only Saul and his son Jonathan had them.
23 블레셋 사람들의 부대가 나와서 믹마스 어귀에 이르렀더라 23 Now a detachment of Philistines had gone out to the pass at Micmash.
